The Foothills Quilters guild is a non-profit organization comprised of a group of creative quilting enthusiasts located in the Yadkin Valley, North Carolina. The quilt guild meets throughout the year for guild meetings and guest instruction, sewing days, and an annual quilter’s challenge culminating in a Sew-and-Tell. In addition, the guild features two annual quilt show displays (one during the NC Trail Days in early June at the Heritage Trails Center in Elkin, and one at the Galloway Episcopal Church in Elkin during the Yadkin Valley Pumpkin Festival in late September), along with the occasional pop-up quilt show. The quilters are often charitable in their quilting, providing quilts for those in need.

| history

The Foothills Quilters came to life in 2007 after [Carol] McDowell and Joan Sanders, both avid quilters, decided there was enough local interest to form a group. They arranged with Galloway Episcopal Church to hold a community quilt show in the sanctuary.

After advertising in The Tribune for any interested resident to bring quilts to show, Vicki Whelan, new to Elkin at the time, and Barbara Monroe of State Road helped gather the quilts and put them out for display at the church during the Pumpkin Festival. A sign-up sheet was made available for anyone interested in forming a group and the Foothills Quilters were born officially in October, 2007.

Since that time, the quilters have supported local charities and each other with monthly meetings, monthly sit-and-sew work days and many lovely quilts.
