Leslie Fesperman, director of the Yadkin Valley Fiber Center, knew she would need something whimsical to attract the attention of passersby on the busy stretch of North Bridge Street in Elkin where The Studio is located. Bubbles do the trick!

When the Foothills Arts Center faced electrical repairs that required a temporary closure, Leslie Fesperman, Director of the Yadkin Valley Fiber Center — an affiliate nestled within the Foothills Arts Center — knew she didn’t want to cancel the upcoming Tapestry Weavers South New Works exhibition, nor did she want to postpone the variety of beginning to advanced weaving classes she had planned for the summer and fall. So, Fesperman took the initiative to open a small studio in town to serve her needs throughout the upcoming year. The facility, which she is referring to as The Studio, is located along a bustling stretch of North Bridge Street in Elkin between The Wisdom Table and the Elkin Farmer’s Market.

After completing a list of cosmetic repairs including removing old wallpaper and flooring, painting, adding trim, and updating lighting, the shop is now open to visitors and students alike, and also serves as a miniature gallery for the Foothills Arts Center. Furthermore, the Town of Elkin recently approved a permit that will allow Fesperman to utilize the vacant alleyway adjacent to The Studio, where she plans to invite musicians to play while visitors enjoy a table for two outdoors during Explore Elkin events.

The Studio is located at 110 North Bridge Street in Elkin, NC. Parking is available at Town Hall. The gallery is open on Friday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, or by coincidence or appointment.
