Join us for the third annual Foothills Plein Air Festival, a week-long celebration highlighting the breathtaking natural landscapes of the Yadkin Valley and the rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge and Brushy Mountains.

Sat. Oct. 12 | Miniatures Sale at Reevestock Music Festival noon - 9 pm. Visit Reevestock.com for info. This is the only public event that requires tickets/reservation. All other events are FREE. Visit websites for directions.

Wed. Oct. 16 | Plein Air Painters at Horne Creek Living Historical Farm 9 am - noon.

Thur. Oct. 17 | Plein Air Painters at Golden Road Vineyards 2-5 pm.

Fri. Oct. 18 | In Plein Air Exhibit Reception at The Wisdom Table 6-9 pm

Sat. Oct. 19 | Grassy Creek Vineyard noon - 6 pm. Fresh Paint Sale 12-6, Traditional Craft Demonstrations 12-2, Artist Paint Out 2-4 pm.

Canvas stamping is only necessary for artists registered for the Fresh Paint Sale on 10/19.

Note: Artists need only attend one stamping event based on their time of arrival during the festival. If you are arriving to paint before the stamping, please bring paintings completed prior to the stamping to the stamping. Artists joining after Wednesday can have their work stamped before the Fresh Paint Sale.

Though the festival itinerary is listed below, artists are welcome to paint anywhere they’d like within our tri-county region of Surry, Yadkin, and Wilkes Counties.

Day 1 of the festival coincides with the Reevestock Music Festival on Saturday, October 12th. As festivities kick off, browse through a vendor tent featuring miniature works by participating plein air artists. Additionally, artists receive complimentary tickets to the Reevestock Music Festival, offering an opportunity to paint lively crowd scenes amidst the vibrant music. Drawing around 2,000 attendees annually, the Reevestock Music Festival boasts an eclectic mix of Folk, Americana, Southern Rock, and Newgrass. Reevestock Miniatures Sale Noon until 9 pm.

Day 2: Free Roam Sunday | Paint wherever/whatever you’d like in the tri-county region of Surry, Yadkin, Wilkes. Do note that some roads in Western Wilkes County remain in the do not travel area.

Day 3: Go West Monday | Stone Mountain State Park is currently closed for repairs due to Hurricane Helene, so we are inviting painters to our historic property by the entrance to Stone Mountain instead. Stamping will be available at the C.D. Holbrook Store (10220 Traphill Rd., parking in the rear) located at the corner of Traphill Rd. & Austin Traphill Rd. Artists can paint our orchard, tobacco barn (c1840), cabin (c1840), the Holbrook Store (c1908), or the J.S. Kirby Store (c1880). Painters can also paint next door at the historic Holbrook House bed and breakfast, but please park in OUR lot behind the corner store. Our Mountain views unfortunately aren’t panoramic until the leaves fall. Stamping will be from 9 am - 11 am at the C.D. Holbrook Store (Traphill Studios) Roaring River VIneyards is closed on Mondays but the property provides excellent views of the rocky Roaring River

Day 4: Go North Tuesday | Kapps Mill Estate | 962 Kapps Mill Rd. Dobson, NC 27017 Stamping 9 -11 am. For another nearby painting location check out the historic Edward’s-Franklin House 4132 Haystack Rd. Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The planned New River painting location has been canceled due to damage from Hurricane Helene.

Day 5: Go East Wednesday | Start the day at Horne Creek Living Historical Farm where you’ll find historic structures, farm animals, orchards, and more. End the day painting at Pilot Mountain State Park. Stamping 9-11 am in the orchard by the Visitors Center.

Day 6: Thirsty Thursday | Promises a delightful excursion aboard the Elkin Vine Line, starting the day at Piccione Vineyards and ending at Golden Road Vineyards. Both offer panoramic views and fine wines. Vineyard Shuttle Passport

Day 7: Keep it Local Friday | Paint downtown Elkin landmarks like the Library dam, Reeves Theater, or paint a panoramic view from the rooftop terrace at Three Trails. The day concludes with the opening reception of In Plein Air, featuring artists selected as the people’s choice favorites from the previous year's festival from 6-9 pm at The Wisdom Table.

Day 8 Fresh Paint Sale & Paint Out | Culminates at Grassy Creek Winery on Saturday, October 19th. Enjoy food trucks and live music performances throughout the event. Each attendee, including artists and their guests, will have the opportunity to cast one vote in the People's Choice selection. Winners will showcase their Plein Air artwork at an exhibit during next year's festival. Fresh Paint Sale & Paint Out Registration

  • Paid registration is required for the Miniatures Sale during Reevestock,Thirsty Thursday Vineyard Shuttle Passport, and the Fresh Paint Sale/Paint Out on the final day of the festival.
